Don't get in a muddle with your miso! With the right utensils to hand, your miso soup will always be perfect.
When using miso paste for soup, Japanese stews and ramen broth, the miso must be dissolved carefully as you gradually add it to the liquid otherwise you'll end up with lumps.
It can be tricky to melt in fully if you're only using a spoon or trying to dissolve it in a smaller cup first. But this set contains the perfect tools to ensure you can thin out your paste while adding it straight into the cooking pot.
Known as a 'misokoshi' this set comprises a long-handled strainer and a matching ladle-style spoon. Both utensils are made of stainless steel with smooth wooden handles.
The sieve-like strainer means you can add the miso directly to the soup without having to scoop some out separately. It even has a little hook so you can rest it on the side of the pan - useful when you need both hands for something else!
The shallow spoon will help you mix the miso well and push it through the sieve to achieve a nice smooth consistency. It's a nice size for tasting too or use it to scoop miso straight from the tub.
The cup-sized shape of the sieve means it can also double up as a noodle strainer!
The strainer measures 23.5cm (about 9") tall from top to bottom including the handle and the bowl itself measures 9.2cm (just over 3½") diameter by 7cm (2¾") high.
The ladle is 20cm (nearly 8") long with the bowl measuring about 6cm (about 2⅜") wide and 0.8cm (⅜") deep.
