The gentle tinkling sound of Japanese bells will calm your mind and soothe the spirit... and if you happen to fall asleep, you can always tell people you were meditating!

Japanese wind chimes, known as 'furin', are a lovely home accessory for any time of year but especially in the spring and summer.  Hang them near a door or window to catch the breeze and create a pretty, soothing sound.

This set of chimes is made from black Japanese cast iron, or 'nambu tekki', from the Ikenaga Nambu Ironworks.

There are two asymmetrical iron bells suspended from a cast iron holder.  Suspended between the bells is a circular 'zetsu' clapper to create the sound, with the facility to add a paper strip called a 'tanzaku' hung below.

The set of bells is held together with dark green cord, with a length of natural coloured string supplied to attach the tanzaku paper strip.

The tanzaku is decorative but has the purpose of catching the wind to make the bells chime.  It's traditional to write your own message on the tanzaku, sending your wishes off on the breeze.

Please note, the tanzaku provided in the box contains details about the product!  Whilst it will serve the practical purpose of catching the wind, the intention is for you to make and personalise your own, whether as a gift or for yourself.

The wind chime set measures about 14cm from the top of the holder to the bottom of the larger bell.  The holder that suspends the bells measures about 8cm by 10.5cm across at the widest point.

Being made of cast iron, this item has a fairly substantial weight (about 340g) and will require secure fixings.

The measurements below are for the boxed item.

Made in Japan.
